On the Tools menu, you should see a LibraryThing Plus submenu. From this, choose, "Options...". You should see a dialog like this:
| Allow CueCat search | Tick this if you want to be able to search your catalog using your CueCat. |
| Check displayed ISBNs are valid | Tick this if you want your ISBNs checked when they are displayed. |
| Title links go to book information | Tick this if you want to go straight to book information from book titles in your catalog. (Don't worry, the "View social information" person icon will still be available from the "Shared" box on each row.) |
| Reload catalog after changing sort order | Tick this if you want to reload your current page when you use LibraryThing Plus to change your catalog sort order. |
| Control-click opens new tab correctly | Tick this if you want to be able to open new tabs easily by control-clicking on links in the catalog, just like normal Firefox behaviour. |
| Suggest book summary when editing | Tick this if you want LibraryThing Plus to suggest summary for your book while your editing the details, based on what you have already entered. |
| Dynamically update summary suggestion | Tick this if you want LibraryThing Plus to update its suggested summary as you alter other fields. |
| Dynamically update existing fields | Tick this if you want LibraryThing Plus to update the "Publication" and "Summary" fields for you when you change other values. |
First, double-check that you have the "Allow CueCat search" option selected in your options. (This is selected by default, so if you haven't switched it off, you should be OK.) On the catalog page, click in the "Search your library" box and then just scan your book. You should see the CueCat scan go into the box and then replaced by the ISBN of the book you scanned. The search is submitted for you, and you should get back just the book you're interested in, plus any other ISBN duplicates, if you have them.
First, double-check that you have the "Check displayed ISBNs are valid" option selected in your options. (This is selected by default, so if you haven't switched it off, you should be OK.) Once this is done, next to each ISBN in your catalog, you should see one of three symbols:
![]() |
This indicates a valid ISBN. |
![]() |
This indicates an invalid ISBN. |
![]() |
This indicates something which doesn't have the correct format to be an ISBN. |
